Jacobus du Plessis is a legal adviser at DFDL’s Myanmar office who specializes in the upstream oil & gas sector, the power sector, and large infrastructure projects. He advises a broad subset of clients from E&P companies, to project developers, offtakers and lenders in relation to energy and infrastructure project developments, acquisitions, and disposals. His practice has a particular emphasis on the unique, complex and fast-developing regulatory environment in Myanmar. Most recently, he advised on the upcoming Exploration Prospecting Development and Production of Petroleum Bill which is set to be the biggest regulatory overhaul in the Myanmar upstream petroleum sector’s 133-year history.
Jacobus has extensive exposure to both civil and common law jurisdictions. He holds a Bachelor of Law (LL.B) from the City University of Hong Kong and has attended Universiteit Maastricht in the Netherlands, and the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster in Germany. He speaks English, Chinese, Afrikaans, and Dutch.
