On 22 August 2019, Bhawna Bakshi (DFDL Myanmar Legal Adviser) participated in the panel discussion of Eurocham Myanmar’s Breakfast Talk: “Directors Duties under the Myanmar Companies Law 2017”, in Yangon.
The event kicked off with a presentation on the Myanmar Companies Law 2017 (“MCL”) introducing its key characteristics followed by the duties under the MCL that companies directors in Myanmar need to be aware of.
The second part of the breakfast talk featured a panel discussion with four panelists: Bhawna Bakshi (DFDL Myanmar Legal Adviser), Eddy Jabnoune (Auditor & Partners Myanmar Country Representative), Guillaume Stafford (METRO Wholesale Myanmar Head of Legal) and a representative from DICA.
Bhawna shared her knowledge and expertise with the audience by answering various questions in regard to good faith practice, conflicts of interest and ways of dealing with directors’ abuse of authority.
This breakfast talk gave valuable and practical insights to the participants in attendance on the scale and nature of directors’ duties under the MCL.
