On 19 and 20 October 2018, Realestate.com.kh hosted the most successful property show in Cambodia’s history: “the Realestate.com.kh EXPO” (previously ‘the Cambodia Real Estate Show’) at NagaWorld in Phnom Penh. Last year, the Realestate.com.kh EXPO welcomed over 100 exhibitors and 10,000 attendees, generating over USD 30 million in property sales over two separate events. This year, the most important developers in Cambodia were present at this event, along with banks, insurance firms, and other notable ‘proptech’ companies.
Guillaume Massin, DFDL Cambodia Partner and Head of the Regional Real Estate Practice Group, along with Davy Kong, DFDL Cambodia Deputy Head of the Real Estate Practice Group, provided a legal overview of the Cambodian Real Estate market over two seminars during the Expo. Davy’s speech focused on the general regulatory framework, addressing such topics as real estate developer licenses, licensing requirements, sale and purchase transaction restrictions, dispute resolution mechanisms, and penalties faced by developers for non-compliance. Meanwhile, Guillaume discussed practical solutions for real estate investment structuring in Cambodia: key regulations, licenses and formalities, taxation issues, how to structure real estate projects from inception through to completion, along with Borey and Condo purchasing options available to foreign nationals.
Both of the sessions were well received by the over 70 participants present, ending with an engaging Q&A session with enlightening and informative exchanges with our experts.
