DFDL Lao PDR Provides Writing Skills Training for Private Lawyers

On 27 October 2020, a DFDL Lao PDR team comprised of Lasonexay Chanthavong (Senior Legal Adviser) and Bounyasith Daopasith (Legal Adviser) provided a training session to Lao Bar Association members on professional writing and drafting skills and associated ethics as part of the Legal Aid Support Program implemented by the Asia Foundation. Lasonexay and Bounyasith discussed the different types of legal writing and covered ethical issues that can arise when drafting legal instruments. At the training session the lawyers were able to practice writing letters and other forms of written communication to clients and officials. The purpose of the training was to provide practical legal skills to Lao lawyers to help them with their day-to-day duties and sharpen their technical skills. DFDL provided this professional skills training session as part of its longstanding commitment to provide pro bono assistance and participate in capacity building exercises in the Lao PDR. The Legal Aid Support Program is funded by the US Agency for International Development and implemented by the Asia Foundation.
