DFDL Participates in Webinar on Myanmar EPGE’s Solar Tender Offer Now Extended to 17 July 2020

On 3 June 2020, DFDL Myanmar was pleased to participate in Neoventure’s latest Solar Talk “Unlocking Solar Power Potential in Myanmar”. William Greenlee (Partner, Myanmar & Singapore Managing Director, DFDL), Nishant Choudhary (Partner and Deputy Managing Director, Myanmar, DFDL) and Liu Dong (Commercial Director of Risen Energy, South-East Asia markets) discussed the current Myanmar solar power market and its brightly shining potential. William and Nishant opened the webinar with a brief overview of the renewable energy sector in Myanmar, latest market trends and future potential. They gave detailed presentations to the audience on the Myanmar Electric Power Generation Enterprise’s (“EPGE”) latest 1GW tender offer (previous 18 June deadline now extended to 17 July 2020) for solar power projects at 30 designated connection points across the country. Nishant and William outlined the various tender requirements and stipulations such as bid security requirements, land acquisition issues, necessary previous experience on such projects, financial resources and expected EPGE tariffs. Particular light was cast on the salient features of the request for proposal (“RFP”) and those of the model power purchase agreement (“PPA”). They also shared their experience and general insights on solar project development and financing. Around 140 experts from various solar firms and key stakeholders attended this webinar and gained invaluable knowledge on the future of solar power in Myanmar (especially in light of the Government’s aim of 100% sustainable power by 2030) and had their queries expertly addressed during the closing Q&A.
