On 2 November 2021, Nearirath Sreng (Senior Consultant and Deputy Head of Cambodia Banking, Finance & Technology Practice) was pleased to participate in the Public-Private Dialogue Series session “Unpacking the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (“RCEP”) Agreement” organized by the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (“ERIA”).
Nearirath joined the first panel discussion ‘Setting the scene: The RCEP e-commerce agreement and Cambodia’s Work Plan for its implementation’ moderated by Sven Callebaut (International Trade and E-Trade Adviser) and joined by other panelists: H.E. Sok Siphana (Senior Advisor to the Royal Government of Cambodia) and Deborah Elms (CEO, Asia Trade Centre). Nearirath gave an insightful presentation on e-commerce in Cambodia with a special focus on the current legal and tax framework and how to stay in compliance. She also discussed key penalties and sanctions.
The audience gained valuable insights on what the RCEP e-commerce provisions primarily concern and whether Cambodia’s regulatory e-commerce system is ready for the ratcheting upward tempo of cross-border e-commerce transactions and had their queries succinctly addressed during the Q&A session.
