On 7 May 2020, Paul Volodarsky (Senior Associate, DFDL Vietnam) was pleased to participate in Savills Hotels SEA second hospitality E-Forum focusing on the Relationship Between Hotel Owners and Operators During the COVID-19 Crisis. The team of experts in addition to Paul comprised Lada Shelkovnikova (Partner, Withers Worldwide), Gonzalo Maceda (Vice President of Development, Melia Hotels International), Douglas Louden (Owner Representative, Rosewood Phnom Penh), Gia Long Nguyen (Special Counsel, Baker McKenzie). Paul Volodarsky and Mauro Gasparotti (Director, South East Asia of Savills Hotels APAC) served as the moderators of this event. The real estate experts outlined the relationship between owners and hotel operators and shared their expertise and latest insights on how to best deal with the current pandemic. They discussed several key topics such as hotel operators’ support to owners and new SOPs, force majeure clauses, workforce restructuring, business interruption insurance policies, distressed assets and debt restructuring management. The audience gained significant knowledge on how to manage communication between parties during the crisis and had their queries addressed during the closing Q&A.
