Jack Sheehan and Diberjohn Balinas Discuss Recent Developments at Myanmar Tax Update Seminar
On 29 May, 70 attendees attended an event hosted by the DFDL tax team entitled “Tax Update and Year-end Compliance Reminders Seminar” at the Novotel Hotel in Yangon.
Jack Sheehan, Partner and Head of the Regional Tax Practice, and Diberjohn Balinas, Senior Tax Manager at DFDL Myanmar, led the discussions on the latest developments that are taking place in Myanmar’s evolving and complex tax regulations. The topics discussed included the key changes to the financial reporting year as recently confirmed by the Myanmar Internal Revenue Department (“IRD”), an analysis of the latest Interpretation and Practice Statements, and an in-depth discussion on the proposed changes to the Draft Tax Administration Law. The seminar concluded with Jack and Diber opening up the floor for a Q&A session. The event was very well received and provided a great opportunity for all attendees to meet, network, and share different perspectives on the developments in Myanmar tax rules.
At this event, our dedicated tax professionals will discuss recent changes to Myanmar tax laws and regulations, including the 2018-2019 Union Taxation Law, new tax notifications, changes to the reporting of tax years, updates on recent Interpretation Statements issued by the Internal Revenue Department, along with recent tax reforms in Myanmar.
We will also lead a comprehensive discussion on your tax compliance obligations in Myanmar, especially on the year-end tax reporting filing. Here we will outline tax deductible expenses, output and input commercial tax, the timing of tax submissions, how to deal with tax audits and penalties, and other key compliance issues that anybody doing business in Myanmar needs to know about.
