EuroCham Vietnam & DFDL: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam Investment Conference | 14 – 15 December 2017 | Vietnam

Hanoi, 14 December 2017

Ho Chi Minh City, 15 December 2017

The establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015 represented a major milestone in the pursuit of deeper regional economic integration among ASEAN member-states. It offers vast potential and lucrative opportunities in the form of a large and vibrant trading bloc, along with easier access to previously restricted markets.

Over the preceding two years, we have seen rising investment opportunities on offer from Vietnam’s close neighbours – the dynamic economies of Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.

DFDL, in collaboration with EuroCham Vietnam, participated in the “Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam Investment Conference” on 14 December 2017 in Hanoi and on 15 December 2017 in Ho Chi Minh City. Senior Legal Adviser Andrea Wilson in Hanoi, and Partner and Managing Director Jérôme Buzenet in Ho Chi Minh City, provided an overview of the legal frameworks in Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam at the respective events. They followed this with a comparative analysis of the key legal and regulatory developments in each country. Presentations on investing in the region were also given by Blaise Kilian, Deputy Director of EuroCham Cambodia, Ramon Bruesseler, Executive Director of EuroCham Laos, and Marc De La Fouchardiere, Head of Advocacy and EU Affairs with EuroCham Myanmar. Both events were very well received, with numerous questions directed at our keynote speakers by conference participants, generating lively and informed exchanges on what investors need to be aware of when doing business in the region.

The establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015 represented a major milestone in the quest for deeper regional economic integration among the member-states of ASEAN. It offers vast potential and lucrative opportunities in the form of a large trading bloc, and easier, less restricted access to previously untapped markets.

Over the last two years, we have seen rising investment opportunities on offer from Vietnam’s direct neighbours – the dynamic economies of Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar. In response to this, we have arranged this event to shed greater light on these recent developments, the opportunities that they present, and the challenges and pitfalls that can be expected when operating in these countries.

DFDL, in association with Eurocham Vietnam, held a seminar on “Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam Investment Conference”. The first seminar took place in Hanoi on 14 December 2017, while Ho Chi Minh City was the location for the second conference on 15 December 2017.

DFDL’s Jerome Buzenet in Ho Chi Minh City, and Andrea Wilson in Hanoi served as our expert panelists, shared their insights and perspectives on the latest legal and investment developments in these countries, and the bright prospects that the nascent AEC holds in store.
