Myanmar: Supreme Court Reorganizes Corruption Prevention Unit

On 2 June 2025, the Supreme Court of the Union (“the Court”) issued Notification No. 445/2025 (“the Notification”) to reorganize its Corruption Prevention Unit (“the CPU”) with the aim of enhancing transparency and public trust. Under the new structure, the unit is led by the Director-General of the Supreme Court Office, with the Deputy Director-Generals of Administration and Judicial Affairs serving as deputy and member, respectively.

The Notification states that the CPU is responsible for investigating bribery-related corruption, educating the Court staff on anti-corruption directives issued by the Court, recommending internal reforms to prevent bribery, and reviewing existing directives and procedures to reduce corruption risks. It must report any complaints to the Chief Justice and act as directed.

The CPU is also required to proactively prevent corruption, conduct awareness programs, and take appropriate action under the Civil Service Laws and Rules. All activities must be reported and coordinated in a timely manner. This Notification replaces Notification No. 433/2023, issued on 30 May 2023.
