BIO

Thang Huynh is the Partner of DFDL and Head of DFDL Hanoi Office. Thang is a fully qualified lawyer with 25 years of legal practice in Vietnam. Prior to joining DFDL in late 2006, he worked at two leading international law firms in Hanoi. His practice spans a wide range of legal disciplines, including mergers and acquisitions, real estate, civil aviation, compliance and investigations, antitrust, data privacy, energy and infrastructure, as well as general corporate, commercial, and investment matters in Vietnam.

Thang has advised on numerous high-profile projects and transactions, acting for a diverse group of clients such as foreign investors, Vietnamese counterparties, and competent government authorities. Mergers and acquisitions remain his core area of expertise, complemented by deep knowledge of Vietnamese real estate law, through which he has advised on multiple large-scale development projects (industrial, residential and hospitality) nationwide. His experience also includes advising on initial public offerings on international stock exchanges, most recently supporting several notable listings involving well-established brands. In parallel, he serves on an ongoing basis as legal counsel to multiple international airlines in relation to their commercial transactions and operational matters in Vietnam.

In recent years, Thang has been increasingly engaged in complex workplace compliance and investigation matters, where he has led large-scale internal investigations involving white-collar crime and regulatory non-compliance. His practice further covers antitrust and competition law, including merger control filings, as well as data privacy matters related to cross-border data processing and international data transfers.

Thang has also advised on donor-funded technical assistance projects, particularly those involving the review and analysis of draft Vietnamese legislation. In this capacity, he has acted for international donors such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.

He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) in International Commercial Law from the University of Nottingham (UK), undertaken in collaboration with the National University of Singapore, and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from Hanoi University of Law.

Thang is widely recognized for his legal expertise and market standing. He is recommended as a leading lawyer in Vietnam by The Legal 500 and was named to the A-List: Vietnam’s Top Lawyers 2025 by Asia Business Law Journal.
