On 11 September 2019, in Ho Chi Minh City, SCE Project Asia organized the “Heritage Preservation & Economic Development” event. Local and Italian experts came together to discuss the ongoing cooperation between Italy and Vietnam regarding heritage preservation in HCMC along with the future economic development of HCMC and the wider Mekong Delta region. DFDL Senior Legal Adviser, Paul Volodarsky, gave a presentation on the ‘Legal Framework for Adaptive Re-use of existing structures in Vietnam’. Other key topics discussed were: PPPs in Vietnam, smart and creative cities, the government’s vision for the next 20 years, and the creation of historical centers among others. This event was designed to begin the process of developing the legal framework for preserving and encouraging the private sector to invest in historic and heritage buildings in Vietnam.
