Myanmar Legal Update: Solar Tender Bid Submission Deadline Date Extended from 18 June to 17 July 2020

The Myanmar Electric Power Generation Enterprise (“EPGE”) has extended the Bid Submission Date under the Request for Proposal to 17 July 2020 (from the previous date of 18 June).

This is a welcome step by the EPGE which will ensure more competition in the bidding process and will allow would-be participants more time to submit proposals which are technically better and more cost-efficient.

Previously, several potential bidders and other stakeholders expressed their concerns over the unfeasibly short deadline of 18 June 2020 by which to make bid submissions given (among others); the tender requirements, land acquisition issues, and COVID-19 related complications surrounding travel to and within the country and meetings with officials and stakeholders.

With this amendment and one month extension of the Bid Submission Date to 17 July 2020, prospective bidders that were on the verge of pulling out of the process due to the unrealistic former deadline will now hopefully show a renewed interest in submitting their solar power projects to the EPGE.
